Richard Canal Headshot

Richard Canal is a London-based actor, playwright and director from Spain and the United States. He has trained in several short- and long-term programmes and performed in a range of plays (his favorites being Adolfo Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, Gaston in Beauty and the Beast and Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar).

Combining his equal passions for the humanities and the dramatic arts, RIchard obtained his BA in International Human Rights at Regents University London, and is now working towards an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development at SOAS. His Masters dissertation focuses on the benefice and utility of theatre for reconciliation in post-genocide societies.

As a playwright, Richard focuses on themes of conflict and confession: he is writing solo shows about artist Salvador Dalí, courtesan the Belle Otero and Angolan warlord Jonas Savimbi; a full-length reinterpretation of Shakespeare's Henry VI set in the DRC; and a one-act about hate in the contemporary USA.
